Proudly Part Of The Community Of Sydney Catholic Schools

Why choose our school?

At Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School North Ryde we know our students on an individual basis. We provide an extensive range of academic, co-curricular, emotional, and spiritual opportunities that allow children to discover their passion and strive for their best.

Our hardworking and collaborative teachers, our strong connection with the parish, and large open spaces are critical to students engaging with one another, learning and exploring to their full potential. All of these elements combine to ensure that Holy Spirit is the ideal place to prepare your child for an ever-changing world.

Principal’s Message

Since opening in 1958, our school, has had a reputation in the local community of being an excellent faith-based school with wonderful learning facilities and outstanding play areas for children. This is still the case today as we focus on meeting the spiritual, physical, educational and pastoral needs of every student.

Our school is spacious and provides many opportunities for students to pursue their passions both inside and outside the classroom. Our teachers are committed and work in partnership with their colleagues and parents to ensure the growth of every child.

Whilst we are engaged in the Newman Selective Gifted Program, meaning we specialise in catering for gifted students, we also ensure that every individual child receives the learning experiences they require to reach their full potential.

Our school is an integral part of the Holy Spirit parish. The students participate in programs to receive the sacraments; we attend parish masses to celebrate feast days and other liturgical celebrations throughout the year as well as attending grade and whole school Masses each term.

As principal, I am very excited about leading this wonderfully welcoming community. I look forward to meeting you and your child soon.

History
A church hall built in 1957, would serve as the first parish school with the Sisters of Mercy staffing the school. In 1958, the Spiritus Sanctus School began with 104 students enrolled from kindergarten to second class. Classes were held in the church with minimal equipment. For eight months, the children sat on the kneelers and used the seats as desktops, bobbing up occasionally to read the blackboard.

By 1960, there were 314 pupils taught by three Sisters and two lay teachers. By 1969, enrolments increased and more classrooms were built. In 1988, the Sisters withdrew from the administration of the school and Mrs Marjorie Avery was appointed the first lay principal. In 1990, the school name was anglicised to become Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School and boys were retained to Year 6 so that the school was now co-educational from Kindergarten to Year 6. In 2018, we celebrated 60 years as an outstanding educational community.

Inspired by the Gospels, we aspire to ignite faith in all members of our community by following Jesus’ example, and embracing the Mercy charism and values in our interactions with one another. We are committed to opening the hearts and minds of our students to prepare them for an ever-changing world.

Our Mission is to: Ignite faith. Inspire and empower ALL through learning.

Our Vision to: Opening hearts and minds for an ever-changing world.

Our Values:

Direct us to be people of action and embrace Jesus’ greatest commandment, ‘Love one another as I have loved you’.

Holy Spirit Catholic Primary School North Ryde and the parish are closely linked. We bring the school and parish together in a variety of activities. Pentecost is our parish and school feast day and every year we celebrate together as a faith community. The parish and the school are involved in preparing children for all sacramental programs. The parish priest is very supportive of the school and he regularly visits the school. The principal and Parents and Friends president are part of the parish council.
